She never wanted a third child. She was happy with the two lovely daughters and a caring husband. Little did she know that having no son was more than a sin for her in-laws. She had to take one more chance, so unwilling to have one more child. She knew she could make good future for both of them and her two daughters. She had her husband to stand besides her and support her decision. She was happy.

Her sister visited her that day, she was not well. She was feeling nautious and a bit guiddy. Her sister was in tears. To see the most confident person you have seen upto now giving up like a kid was not easy. She knew the reason for her sister being so sad. She took her hand , and promised it would be all well soon. She knew she was not well for a reason. She smiled , both smiled. Her sister was pacified.

Her younger daughter came home from school. The father was rushing with a tiffin box, the girl asked

Girl :Pappa where are you going???? and where is mom???

Dad: Hey sweet-cheeks, you are having a baby sister now, wanna come to see her??

The girl’s eyes twinkled. She was more than happy. She only knew that now she was not the youngest. She has one more sister to boss around and call her TAI. (didi)

The father was happy , his wish had come true. That day after the big fight with his mom he prayed silently  “Dear God if you truly exist, let me have a third daughter. I don’t want a son.. I have my own reasons and you know them

She was home, it was mahashivraatri. She wanted to play with her baby child. She bathed her, dressed her up in a chocolate brown frock. She wanted to play with her. During all these years because of the financial situation , because of all the rush she never had time to play with the other two daughters. Before even she realised they were old enough to play by themselves. Now she did not want to miss this chance. She was happy.

Her sister came in, she had come to take what She had promised her. She had come to take the baby. Her sister could not have baby, it was 8 years after their marraige. She had completly forgotten of the promise, but her sister had not. She could not say no. She knew her sister’s life, marraige, her existence was at stake. And she knew what she had to do.

……………………………………………..One month later……………………………………………..

She was thinking, “The baby would not stay, sister would bring her back. She would not be able to take care of such a small baby.

The post man brought in a letter. It was from her sister , it read……

Dear M,

Your daughter P is staying well with me. She does not recognize the face but she recognizes my voice. We have the same voice remember? She understands me as you. So I have a child now. I have my own child. I have decided to keep her the name that you have given. She should have something from her real mother. I don’t even have words to thank you , you have litten my life up.

And yes, can you not visit me until she grows a bit older, I don’t want you to see her, just to avoid complex situations. I hope you understand.

Yours,
TAI
